Sports and Remedial Massage - What is it?

Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body by a trained therapist as part of a holistic therapeutic treatment. Massage can also be combined with other forms of therapy.

For the professional or recreational athlete, sports and remedial massage can be used within a regular training programme to detect faulty technique, avoid overuse syndrome and ensure more rapid recovery from injury. The therapist will also give advice on stretching techniques, nutrition and posture where appropriate, for a complete and balanced regime of body care.

Special services are available, in cooperation with consultants and GPs and with patients' consent, for supportive care for a range of conditions. Programmes of treatment can be individually designed. Referrals are also made in appropriate cases.

Home visits can be arranged for those who prefer treatment at home.
